Summary
A mahogany washstand with mottled white marble moulded top, English, circa 1860. Stamped J. MAPLE & CO. 145 TOTTENHAM CT RD to each drawer, the top with stepped three-quarter gallery, arched back and rear shelf, the two frieze drawers with mahogany handles, on fluted tapering legs with ceramic castors.
Full description
Maple & Co was one the largest and most successful British furniture retailers and cabinet makers in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. They were well known for their craftsmanship and were specialists in copying designs from the 18th century but with their own interpretation to suit current fashion. Their store was on the Tottenham Court Road in London.
