Summary
An ebony and mother of pearl work box, English, circa 1840. Of sarcophagus shape, decorated overall with shaped geometric panels of mother of pearl depicting palm trees, buildings, birds and butterflies, standing on gadrooned bun feet and with side carrying handles, the lid opening to reveal an interior of blue watered silk (now faded) and fitted with a variety of compartments, some lidded and a removable tray.
