Caption
This elaborate chiffonier, decorated with gilt bronze mounts and porcelain plaques of baskets and flowers, was very typical of the Mary Anne Disraeli's tastes.
Summary
A giltwood and porcelain mounted chiffonier for display, German, circa 1860. The rectangular top and plinth base covered in red velvet, the leaf-carved mirror-back with three rococo style porcelain arches and two candelabra arms entwined with flowering stems and issuing from gilt Bacchanalian masks, the frieze hung with pierced gilt scroll-work and applied with three framed porcelain plaques depicting flowers in baskets, probably Davenport or Minton circa 1830, with bold porcelain front supports modelled as scroll monopodia resting on plinths, the rear supports as giltwood pilasters, the small tapestry cushion now affixed to the velvet surface.

Visible in an 1881 photograph of The Library, when it was Disraeli's drawing room.
