Summary
A small upholstered footstool, English, circa 1870. The circular seat within a walnut and Tunbridgeware frame, standing on bun feet. The top is traditionally upholstered. The top cover is of linen canvas: the ground is embroidered in tent stitch (burgundy woollen yarns), with glass beads in shades of white, grey and green forming the design of lilies. The perimeter edge of the upholstered top is trimmed with a multi-coloured ridged cord.

Tunbridgeware is a form of decorative inlay consisting of a mosaic of differently coloured timbers, predominantly found on small objects and boxes and was originally associated with the Kent town of Tunbridge Wells.
