Summary
Pencil and wash on paper, Isaac D'Israeli (1766-1848), after Stephen Poyntz Denning (1795-1864). A posthumous head and shoulders, portrait turned slightly to the left, with spectacles and black cravat. Probably after the Athenaeum portrait by Stephen Poyntz Denning (NT 428557). Paper labels on the reverse, one pasted over another, the second (legible) label 'inscribed in pen and ink 'Isaac Disraeli Esq / crayons by J. Carter / 1864'. Historically attributed to John H. Carter, a British portrait painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839 to 1856.
