Pencil on paper, 'New Crowns for Old Ones', by Sir John Tenniel (London 1820 - London 1914). The cartoon appeared in 'Punch' on 15 April 1876. Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield (1804-1881) standing to left in arab costume with peddlar's box, crown in left hand with 'INDIA' on it. Queen Victoria (1819-1901) to right, holding British Crown. Cartoon inscribed bottom left 'JT 1876'. The mount is inscribed 'John Tenniel.del/ Punch April 15. 1876/ 'New crowns for old ones'/ (Aladdin adapted)/ Presented to the Disraelian Museum, Hughenden, 1939/ by/ H.M. The King'.
