Summary
Dispatch box owned by Disraeli. The box of rectangular section, the lid formed of the top section with the top edge chamfered, a locking mechanism fitted at the front, two hinges at the rear, a brass bale carrying handle fitted at the top. The sub structure of softwood which is worm eaten, revealed through damage to the serge covering at the bottom. The covering of red dyed, long grain morocco leather as identified in the Sotheby's catalogue. The top stamped 'Rt. HONble B. DISRAELI.' The edges of the top and four sides tooled with gilding in a running pattern. The interior of the box lined with a black finished paper.
