Newton manufactured a reflecting telescope using a metal mirror that he cast and shaped himself. At only 20cm long it amazed users by its magnification. Newton presented the telescope to the Royal Society and was elected a Fellow in 1672. The telescope in the collection is a reconstruction of the Newton’s telescope and was made by apprentices of the Royal Society.
