Summary
A funerary hatchment decorated with the coat of arms of one member of the Shirley family. The shield is supported by a red stag and a white dog and is crested with a crown and a man's head. The motto 'HONOR VERTUTIS PRAEMIUM' is written underneath in black letters on a white and gold background. The motto translated into English from Latin means 'Honour is the reward of valour'. The shield is divided into quarters and each quarter is divided into two sections. The background is half black and half white and the painted frame is black with a gold inner edge.
