Caption
This is one of a pair of black vases which look like Chinese ‘famille-noire’ from the Kangxi period (1662-1722), but in fact it’s a skilful reproduction. The vases were made c.1900 by the Parisian firm of Samson, who specialised in making high quality copies of the fashionable but less affordable originals.
Summary
One of a pair of famille-noire style baluster vases and covers, decorated with Prunus flowers within arched panels on a black ground. Impressed with maker's mark 'S' for Samson & Co, Paris.
