Summary
Ivory, netsuke of a seated actor, Japanese, probably 19th century. A Japanese ivory netsuke, depicting a seated Noh actor, with mask pushed to the proper right side of the face, holding with both hands an inverted drum which rests on the lap. With a drilled channel on the back of the figure's robe to take the inro cord, the maker's inscriptions on base.
