Summary
Textile box 57. A tail-coat, c.1884-1900. Dark green woollen coat with gold colour metal embroidery on stand-up collar, cuffs and on tails, double breasted with crested buttons. Collar, cuffs and tails trimmed with dark green velvet. Silk. Leather. Gilt buttons. Part of the uniform of the Royal Company of Archers, the sovereign's ceremonial bodyguard in Scotland. Worn by Schomberg Henry Kerr, 9th Marquess of Lothian, between 1884-1900. BL89.1*
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1940 by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
