Summary
Dressing case. Early C19. Mahogany, brass-bound with two brass carrying handles set flush into side of box. Brass-hinged lid with blue leather document pocket. Compartments for bottles and manicure set. Brass plate on lid engraved 'Viscount Castlereagh' with a coronet. Blue velvet lining. Label 'Edwards, real manufacturer to HR Highness The Duke of York, 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square, London. Sole Inventor of the Patent Military Mounted Writing and Shaving Cases', with drawings of Russia Writing Case and Russia Dressing Case.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
