Summary
Print. Bayeux Tapestry, Plates 1 to 17. Published by the Society of Antiquaries of London June 1819. The scenes depicted in the illustration show A ship bringing news of Harold's coronation to Normandy. William and his half-brother Bishop Odo (with tonsure) sit side by side in Rouen Castle, and while the informant is still speaking orders are given for the building of the invasion fleet. Men fell trees and trunks to cut into planks. The fleet is shown being built. With a rope passed through a ring on a post, the shipwrights haul the completed ships into the water.
