Full description
Snaphaunce long-gun, Morocco, North Africa, early 19thcentury. Damascus twist iron barrel formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech to round at the muzzle, inlaid overall with silver wire (including tang). Bulbous form muzzle. Raised rear sight, the fore-sight missing. Retained to the stock by 4 wide brass barrel bands, each with embossed decoration. Wooden ramrod. Barrel length: 120.7cm. Calibre 16mm. Wooden full stock, the butt of “fish-tail” form and constructed in 3 separate sections (of different wood), one section with an iron retaining bracket. Decorated overall with brass and steel studs and inlaid with engraved bone plaques. Iron trigger guard a long rear tang with fluted decoration. Curved iron trigger. Snaphaunce flintlock of English form and solid construction, with filed decoration to the edge of the frizzen spring, an engraved circular fence to the flash-pan and a sliding pan-cover. Retained to the stock by 3 side-nails. Overall length: 157.5cm
