Full description
Percussion belt pistol, English, c1840, signed Harvey, Exeter – probably John Harvey, Exeter (active 1797 – 1850). Octagonal iron barrel formed with an integral breech and lock frame. The breech stamped with Birmingham 1813 proof marks and the top flat engraved, HARVEY, EXETER. The muzzle with an engraved band and bead fore-sight. The rear top strap with a raised rear sight. Under rib with a ramrod pipe and attached stirrup-type iron ramrod. Barrel length 8.3cm. Calibre 15mm. Box-lock frame with foliate engraving. Side mounted percussion hammer. A long belt-hook is attached to the left side of the pistol frame. Chequered bag-shaped walnut grip, stamped with serial number 3671, and inset with a silver escutcheon. Overall length: 22.2cm
