Summary
Piece of embroidered fabric of heavy yellowing cotton, embroidered with simple, widely spaced floral and foliar designs, including pomegranates, acorns, oak leaves and two unidentified flowers in shades of blue and faded yellows and pinks. Long and short, button hole, french knots, couching and stem stitch. Probably 17th century or maybe earlier. Side panels of different material and of later date. One panel has been lengthened with a piece of centre panel. Heavy, figured, discoloured cotton embroidered with tiny very regular blue chain stitch in outline of sea weed pattern. Much yellower than quilt, BAD/T/177a. Cotton fabric with slips of fine embroidered flowers and foliage. The fabric has been cut and pieced together at some time. There is a side panel in different heavier fabric with a vermicelli design worked in blue chain stitch. Linen backing with quilting running stitches going through it across all the piece. Thin layer of cotton wadding between layers.
