Watercolour heightened with white on paper, Crime and Punishment (after Carl Hermann Weiss), attributed to Jean Jacques Zuidema Broos (1833 - 1882), inscribed, bottom left-hand corner: A. D. d'après / Weiss. A scene with a small boy and lady holding a bundle of branches in the act of striking the boy.
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, the Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002.
