Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (sailing ship with Fairhaven arms on sails): ‘Sapphire R.Y.S.’ and ‘Broughton’ [i.e. from the library of the yacht ‘Sapphire’, owned by Urban Hanlon Broughton (1857-1929), later by Cara Leland Rogers, Lady Fairhaven (1867-1939)]. Binding: Twentieth-century full publisher's purple cloth; double gilt fillet to form an outer border on upper board; gilt stamped cornerpieces: fleurs-de-lys; gilt and red stamped centrepiece: shield bearing the coat of arms of Scotland, surmounted by a crown; gilt lettered spine.
