Binding: Twentieth-century half red calf; marbled paper over boards; sewn onto three recessed cords; five false bands; gilt tooled spine; green morocco spine labels, gilt lettered: 'Essays of Emerson' and 'Frist series'; gilt top edge; marbled endpapers; red ribbon marker. Binder's ink-stamp on front free endpaper verso: 'Bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London, England'.
