Provenance: With presentation letter pasted onto upper endpaper on headed paper giving the address of 53, Belsize Park Gardens, South Hampstead, N.W.: 'Presented to Miss Fanny Richardson [i.e. Frances Richardson, wife of Julius Drewe] for having attained the required number of marks in the I Division. Christmas 1886. E.V. Knox [possibly the poet, Edmund George Valpy Knox (10 May 1881 – 2 January 1971), known as Evoe] A.S. or A. J. Cresswell'. Previously the property of Mary Drewe (1900-1985), elder daughter of Julius Drewe and Frances Richardson Drewe and removed from Castle Drogo in 1954 when Mary left to set up a nursery school in Exmouth. Bequeathed to the current owner by Mary Drewe, and gifted to the National Trust for Castle Drogo, 2024. Binding: Publisher's olive green adhesive cloth case-binding; all edges gilt; bevelled boards; gold, white and black panel stamp on upper cover; gold and black panel stamp on spine; navy endpapers.
