Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (sailing ship with Fairhaven arms on sails): ‘Sapphire R.Y.S.’ and ‘Broughton’ [i.e. from the library of the yacht ‘Sapphire’, owned by Urban Hanlon Broughton (1857-1929), later by Cara Leland Rogers, Lady Fairhaven (1867-1939)]. Purple ink-stamp: ‘S.Y. SAPPHIRE.’ on front free endpaper. Binding: Twentieth-century full publisher's dark blue cloth; triple white fillet (thin - thick - thin) to form an outer border on upper board; red and white blocked centrepiece on upper board: shield of England surmounted by gilt stamped naval crown; red and white blocked shield of England on spine; gilt lettered upper board and spine; gilt top edge.
