Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (sailing ship with Fairhaven arms on sails): ‘Sapphire R.Y.S.’ and ‘Broughton’ [i.e. from the library of the yacht ‘Sapphire’, owned by Urban Hanlon Broughton (1857-1929), later by Cara Leland Rogers, Lady Fairhaven (1867-1939)]. Purple ink-stamp: ‘S.Y. SAPPHIRE.’ on front free endpaper. Binding: Twentieth-century full publisher's green cloth: gilt stamped figure of Mr. Punch on upper board, standing on a plinth formed of blind fillets within an outer border of a single blind fillet and with a blind stamped laurel wreath on the front of the plinth; gilt stamped dog with ruff and hat on spine, standing on a plinth formed of blind fillets with a blind stamped laurel wreath on the front of the plinth; gilt lettering on spine.
