Provenance: Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (small variant), signed Badeley 1930: ‘Urban Huttleston Rogers Lord Fairhaven’ [i.e.: Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966)]. Pencil inscription on second front free endpaper in the hand of Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven: "This Dictionary was constantly / used by Mother & was on her / desk. It was rebound October 1939. / Fairhaven." [i.e. previously belonged to Cara Leland Rogers, Lady Fairhaven (1867-1939)]. Binding: Twentieth-century full brown morocco; single gilt fillet to form an outer border; gilt lettering on upper board in a circular frame of a single gilt fillet; gilt lettered spine; gilt textblock edges; thumb cut index marked with red ink and black morocco labels (gilt lettered) for each letter of the alphabet (label for letter I wanting); marbled endpapers.
