Grace Dana' with manuscript inscription: "I hope you may / enjoy having for / the Sapphire this / book which recalls / the old whaling / days of New Bedford / & Fairhaven. / Much love / from Grace". Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (sailing ship with Fairhaven arms on sails): ‘Sapphire R.Y.S.’ and ‘Broughton’ [i.e. from the library of the yacht ‘Sapphire’, owned by Urban Hanlon Broughton (1857-1929), later by Cara Leland Rogers, Lady Fairhaven (1867-1939)]. Bookseller's ticket on front pastedown: 'Hutchinson's / Bookstore / 224 Union St. / New Bedford, Mass.'. Binding: Twentieth-century full publisher's green cloth; single blind fillet to form an outer border on upper board; gilt lettered spine.
