Binding: Nineteenth-century full brown morocco; blind fillets to form a panel design with blind stamped floral cornerpieces; gilt stamped title as centrepiece on upper and lower boards; sewn onto three recessed cords; five false bands; spines lettered direct (gilt tooled): 'Washington and the American republic', 'B.J. Lossing. / Vol. I[-III].'; gilt stamped floral sprays in remaining spine compartments; blind rolls and fillets on spines; gilt rolled board edges and turn-ins; gilt textblock edges; pale yellow endpapers.
