Manuscript inscription on second front free endpaper: "To- / Maitland Kersey / With the compliments of the author / W.K. Vanderbilt / Dec. 25: 1929" [i.e. to Major H. Maitland Kersey from William Kissam Vanderbilt (1878-1944)]. Binding: Twentieth-century quarter brown morocco, tan paper over boards; gilt stamped title on upper board; gilt and silver stamped device (seahorse and anchor) on upper board with two flags stamped in blue, red, white and black; gilt lettered title on spine; gilt top edge; coloured maps on endpapers.
