Pencil number "414" (erased) on rear free endpaper. Manuscript inscriptions on title page and verso of plate [11] washed out, illegible. Provenance: Nineteenth?-century anonymous spade shield armorial bookplate (not in Franks): stag's head with a star en chief and motto: 'Deo et Regi'. Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (small variant), signed Badeley 1930: ‘Urban Huttleston Rogers Lord Fairhaven’ [i.e.: Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966)]. Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf; triple gilt fillet to form a border; five raised bands; gilt tooled spine; red morocco spine label, gilt lettered: 'The Horse Guards'; dark blue morocco spine label, gilt lettered: 'Hort'; gilt rolled board edges and turn-ins; gilt top edge; marbled endpapers; green ribbon marker. Original front wrapper retained.
