Summary
Bibliographic description
[8], 51, [1] p., [3] leaves of plates : ill. ; 19 cm. Provenance: pictorial bookplate of Reginald W. Groom, depicting a monk reading a book, pasted inside upper board; manuscript presentation letter pasted inside upper board, dated 1 January 1924, on Lamb House headed paper, from A.C. Benson [i.e. Arthur Christopher Benson, 1862-1925] to Reginald W. Groom: "My dear Groom, I have signed both the copies - but I don't feel equal to any introductory remarks! I think the blank pages are designed for you. I am settled here in a house which I have taken on lease with my brother. It belonged to Henry James the novelist, & still has all his books pictures & furniture. Oddly enough I stayed with him here nearly 25 years ago, little thinking that I should ever come to live here. There is a noble Church here & a beautiful service - the vicar, Canon Fowler, is a great friend of mine. All best wishes very sincerely yours, Arthur C. Benson"; manuscript inscription in ink on upper end-paper: "Arthur C. Benson, Magd. Coll: Cambridge, Christmas 1923". Binding: stiff card boards covered in printed paper decorated with rows of black clubs.
