Provenance: according to a manuscript note by Miss Alice de Rothschild, the portfolio came from the estate of Josef Antoni Kossakowski (1772-1842). Binding: manuscript is within a portfolio of French straight-grained red morocco, c.1815. With a roll border of roses round the side and across the flap; silver gilt lock and, below it, an oval miniature of Madame de Genlis. Pocket with flap inside the upper cover; green silk lining; within the lower cover are four triangular flaps of red morocco to enclose the manuscript. A gold catch, with Paris warranty mark for the period 1809-1819 connects the top and bottom flaps which have the following inscription tooled in gilt "Ce manuscit est ecrit de la main de Mme. la Comtesse de Genlis".
