Library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742), of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Manuscript capital letter and number at head of front fly-leaf: "A" and "168". Pencil shelfmark[?], probably nineteenth-century, on front fly-leaf: "B 13". Manuscript inscription on B4v: "Valantyne Keylinge sum tibi rharissimus". Binding: English sixteenth-century calf; sewn onto four tawed-leather cords; triple blind fillet border; blind oval centrepiece stamp with interlaced strapwork and foliage; evidence of pair of clasps (missing) on fore-edge of boards; rebacked in calf; three of the original spine panels in acid-free card folder which is attached to the inside of the rear board; vellum waste lines the endpapers. Pencil inscription in the hand of Cecil Clarabut (the National Trust's first Libraries Adviser) on verso of front fly-leaf: "Repaired at Cambridge, 1955".
