The 2d leaf should be the 8th" [i.e. catalogue code and collation note written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]; with Mitchell's manuscript code at foot of leaf: "α'." [i.e. alpha' = Greek number 1]. Eighteenth-century[?] manuscript former shelfmark and code on front pastedown: "g B.20" (Newbattle Abbey shelfmark?) and "S/Gram &c 114". Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn on four supports; double blind fillet border; gold-tooled spine with floral decoration, missing title label; red and green sprinkled bookblock edges.
