Provenance: faint pencil inscription on front free endpaper: "Beeston Regis 1858[?]". Manuscript inscription on second front free endpaper: "Cremer Cremer St John's Coll: Camb. Germany" [i.e. Rev. Cremer Cremer (1795-1867)]. Doodles and faint pencil notes on front and rear endpapers, including a weekly plan for reading classical authors. Pencil calculation on rear pastedown. Pencil note on rear pastedown: "Germany and Agricola". Binding: nineteenth-century half calf, marbled paper over boards; recessed cords; five false bands; gilt fillets on spine; spine lettered direct (gilt-tooled): 'Tac[itus] D[e] mor[ib]us German: et De vita Agricolæ'.
