Provenance: Inscribed on half-title "My dear niece Edith Londonderry asked me to write my name in this book which I do with pleasure, HMCRadnor 4 Dec. 1928" [i.e. inscribed by the author to Edith 7th Marchioness of Londonderry]. Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (dated 1922) set in a landscape with De Lazlo's portrait of Edith Lady Londonderry in the uniform of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in a medallion above, lettered at the bottom of the plate "Edith Helen Marchioness of Londonderry. D.B.E." . Motto in Scottish Gaelic over portrait ("Tha mo cridhe's an tir nam beann" [My heart is in the land of mountains]) [i.e. Edith Helen Chaplin, m. in 1899 Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 7th Marquess of Londonderry from 1915]. Binding: Twentieth-century full polished mottled calf, gilt armorial stamp displaying Vane-Tempest-Stewart marshalled with Chaplin under a marquess coronet with charges and motto (Metuenda corolla draconis) on upper cover. Gilt-tooled on spine; brown leather spine labels, lettered in gilt. Gilt board edges and marbled endpapers. Gilt text-block edges. Binder's stamp on flyleaf verso "Bound by Riviere & son"
