Summary
Black and white photograph by the General Photographic Agency, London. Also stamped "copyright of Radio Times Hulton Picture Library". The photograph shows four people, from left to right: Paul Mellon (1907-1999), his sister Ailsa Mellon [(1901-1969), married David K. E. Bruce in 1926], Sir Robert Horne [(1871-1940), Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1921-22] and Andrew W. Mellon [(1855-1937), US Secretary of the Treasury between 1921 and 1932). There is a small blue cross beside Sir Robert Horne and a small slip of paper was attached to the photograph, inscribed "Sir Robert Horne. Horne the Hornbill. Page 149 vol. (III) Wild Life." Horne the Hornbill refers to Sir Robert's membership of the Ark Club, a social gathering instigated by Edith, 7th Marchioness Londonderry. It is loosely inserted between pp.148-149 of vol. 3 of Lydekker's Wild life of the world.
