Provenance: twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (dated 1910), bearing arms of Vane-Tempest-Stewart impaling Chaplin. Banners with motto (1) in Scottish Gaelic ("Tha mo cridhe's an tir nam beann" [My heart is in the land of mountains]), (2) Knowledge is the antidote to fear. Open book entitled "Of gardens by Bacon". Images of a horse and Castlereagh portrait.
