With a cutting from The Times of July 27, 1957 laid in: "Alice's author in Sussex: Lewis Carroll at the seaside" by Stanley Godman, referring to Dodgson's irascibility. With a pencil inscription, illegible, on half-title. With a child's scribbles on half-title verso and frontispiece verso. Provenance: inscribed “D.E. Johnston 46” [i.e. Dorothy Edith Johnston, F.R.G.S., 1880-1962]. Binding: publisher's red cloth, with triple gold fillets on boards and vignettes of Alice and the Cheshire cat on upper and lower boards; gold-lettered on spine, gold tops.
