[i.e. Thomas Anson, of Shugbrough (1695-1773)]; pasted over eighteenth-century early armorial bookplate of Richard Banner [Banner (b. 1696) of Little Aston Hall, sold library to Thomas Anson in about 1745]. In v.1 of Vitae, autograph letter signed from W. Morton Philips to Lord Lichfield; headed: Weeping Cross, Stafford; dated: June 1915; returning these 6 vols. "back to their right place after their many years absence." Stamped gilt badge on covers: fleece hanging from a bow of ribbon [i.e.Martin Folkes (1690-1754). Binding: eighteenth-century dark green morocco; triple gilt fillet borders; with gilt stamped hanging fleece cornerpieces and centrepieces; same motif stamped on spines; sewn onto five raised bands; directly gilt lettered: [v.1-3] Plutarchi Opuscula Tom 1-3 and [v.4-6] Plutarchi Vitae Tom 1-3.
