Canvas scrap used as bookmark between pp. 138-9. Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial bookplate (dated 1922): "Edith Helen Marchioness of Londonderry. D.B.E." [i.e. Edith, Marchioness of Londonderry (1879-1959)], displaying arms of Vane-Tempest-Stewart paired with arms of Chaplin surrounded by books. Motto in Irish over portrait. Binding: Nineteenth-century full sprinkled calf, gilt tooled on edges and spine. Lettered direct in gilt on spine: 'Apology for the Irish Catholics'. Edges sprinkled brown.
