Manuscript inscriptions on title page: "Thomas Knyuett" (written twice in different hands, one sixteenth-century, the other seventeenth-century) [i.e. Sir Thomas Knyvett (ca. 1539-1618), Norfolk antiquarian, of Ashwellthorpe in Norfolk. His library passed by descent to his great-grandson Thomas Knyvett (d. 1693), after whose death the library was sold to John Moore (1646-1714), Bishop of Norwich and of Ely -- cf. D.J. McKitterick, The library of Sir Thomas Knyvett of Ashwellthorpe c. 1539-1618, Cambridge, 1978]. Small armorial bookplate on verso of title page: coat of arms of the University of Cambridge, with legend 'Munificentia Regia. 1715. Georgius D.G. Mag. Br. Fr. et Hib. Rex F.D.', a medallion of King George I, and signed 'J. Pine sculp' [i.e. from the Royal Library, originally the private collection of John Moore (1646-1714), Bishop of Ely, bought by and presented to Cambridge University by George I in 1715. Duplicates from the collection were sold in the eighteenth- and early nineteenth-centuries]. Manuscript shelfmark in the hand of Sir Thomas Knyvett (ca. 1539-1618) on verso of final leaf: "5: Class: Dext: --- 82:" [Knyvett marked his books with the terms "sinister", "auster" or "dexter" to indicate their location along the three sides of his library]. Binding: seventeenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn onto four cords, with four raised bands on spine; double blind fillet border, with additional blind roll pattern along spine-edge; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spine, the panels filled with a repeated roll pattern; gilt title 'Heron' and small floral tools on reddish-brown goatskin label on spine. Red sprinkled textblock edges.
