Provenance: Nineteenth-century armorial bookplate with motto: Addere legi justitiam decus, lettered in banner: "Charles Bowyer Adderley", with "Hams Hall, Warwickshire" underneath [i.e. Charles Bowyer Adderley, 1st Baron Norton (1814-1905)]. Inscribed in vol. I: "Richard Harpur Crewe [i.e. Richard Fynderne Harpur Crewe (1880-1921), son of Sir Vauncey Harpur Crewe, 10th Bt, and Isabel Adderley] from his affectionate Grand Father Norton [?] July 18 1901". Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf, double gilt fillet forming a border with floral corner-pieces, gilt board edges and blind doublure. Sewn on three recessed cords (five raised bands), gilt tooled on spine, brown and maroon leather spine labels, lettered in gilt: "Miller's Works" and "Vol. I [-VI]". Marbled endpapers and paper edges. Bound uniformly and shelved with three additional works by Hugh Miller.
