[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]; with Mitchell's manuscript code at foot of leaf: "α'." [i.e. alpha' = Greek number 1]. Manuscript inscription at head of title page (partially erased): "Bibliothecae Colbertinae" [i.e. from the library of the great French bibliophile Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marquis de Seignelay (1619-1683), Chief Minister to Louis XIV; written in the hand of his librarian, Étienne Baluze (1630-1718). Colbert’s library was dispersed at a sale in Paris, 24 May-21 October 1728, and at two sales in London (23 April 1729 and 17 November 1735)]. With manuscript marginal annotations in Latin and Greek in sixteenth-century[?] hand on leaves A2r-B3v. Binding: eighteenth-century quarter-bound sheepskin, with blue/grey paper over boards.
