Pencil text marking, with rear endpaper annotation and page references, in hand of Vita Sackville-West. Loosely inserted cutting illustration (p.529): Sexton's wheel in Yaxley church, Suffolk. Additional loose leaf inserted (p.301) of pencil manuscript sun-dial mottoes in Latin with English translations: "Be it with thee as with me, at set of the sun, let there be rest"; "To none is given, Longer for delay." Gold sun-dial label affixed to rear endpaper. Provenance: hand drawn pictorial bookplate on vellum, depicting Knole with peacock: Victoria Sackville-West [i.e. Victoria Sackville-West, Lady Sackville (1862-1936)]. Binding: early twentieth-century green morocco, with inlaid orange panel, having gold tooled sun-dial; gold tooled sun motif cornerpieces; gold tooled spine (sun-dial) and turn-ins; all edges gold; in green cloth bound slip-case. Binder's gold stamp on rear turn-in: Bumpus Ltd, Oxford St. W.
