Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Sir William A.H. Bass, Bart. [i.e. Sir William Arthur Hamar Bass (1879-1952)] with motto "Basis virtutum constantia", designed by Charles Wiliam Sherborn (1831-1912). Bought in the Byrkely Lodge [nr Burton, Derbyshire] Library sale, 9 July 1913, according to pasted-in annotated auction catalogue entry. Binding: Nineteenth-century crushed red morocco, gilt panel on covers; 5 false raised bands, gilt tooling on spine, lettered direct in gilt on spine. Green silk-covered endpapers. Edges uncut, top edge gilt. Binder's stamp (gilt): "Bickers & Son, London W".
