Loose inside: (1) bookmark at p.9: slip of paper with rough pencil notes in Gardner Wilkinson's hand; (2) at p.47 two sheets (each 18 x 23cm folded to 18 x 11.5 cm) with a manuscript prose translation of Horace's Book I Ode XXII, by Charles T. Lucas dated July 31, 1876 [not in Gardner Wilkinson's hand]. Provenance: Nineteenth-century armorial bookplate: 'John Gardner Wilkinson Brynfield House.' [i.e. Sir John Gardner Wilkinson (1795-1875)]. Inscription on endpapers: 'Gardner Wilkinson Brynfield House / The pencil marks & interlineations in this book were not made by Sir Gardner - but by some previous owner'. Nineteenth-century signature in black ink on front free endpaper: 'R. Dear'. Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf, gilt fillet borders. Spine gilt; red spine label loose.
