Loosely inserted postcard of Roman amphitheatre at Arles, Provence; [reverse] from Clive [Bell] to Harold Nicolson; headed: Charleston, Sunday; postmarked: Dec 1954; regarding lunch at The Ivy with Emanuel (Bobby) de Margerie. Pencil text marking, with single rear endpaper page reference. Provenance: pictorial bookplate: “Vita. A good book is the best of friends the same today and forever. 1908 Knole” [i.e. Vita Sackville-West, 1892-1962]. Endpaper inscribed: Vita from Connie / Xmas 1905[?]. Binding: twentieth-century half calf, with red cloth on boards; gold decorative motif on spine; five false bands; gold lettered spine; marbled endpapers. Gold lettered on turn in: Bumpus Ltd. Oxford St. W.
