Provenance: Nineteenth-century small armorial bookplate, lettered "Calke Abbey library" [associated with George Crewe, 8th Baronet (1795-1844) and his son John Harpur Crewe, 9th Baronet (1824-1886)]. Binding: Nineteenth-century full mottled calf, gilt greek-key and arabesque[?] fillets forming a border, gilt gauffered edges. Gilt tooling and lettering on spine: "Thinks I to Myself". Edges densely sprinkled in green. Spine on both volumes damaged, boards beginning to detach.
