Honest Burrows & poor Johnston, or The two comrades, . an original and affecting poem. In memory of the late Mr. John Burrows, farmer at Stonethwaite in Borrowdale, (but formerly of Ladstickside in Thornthwaite, both of which places are in the vicinity of Keswick, in the county of Cumberland,) who lost his life on Saturday night, the 13th of November, 1830, on his way from Keswick fair, by his horse unfortunately missing its way, when in a moment himself, horse, and cart, fell over a ledge of rocks into the meadows below, which were at the time greatly overflowed by the heavy rains which had fallen for two days and two nights previous to the fatal misfortune by which himself and horse were either killed or drowned. Composed and written by David Johnston, Senr., his surviving affectionate friend and loving comrade for upwards of twenty-seven years.
