'THE THOROTON SOCIETY OF NOTTINGHAMSHIRE NOTTINGHAMSHIRE RECORD OFFICE COUNTY HOUSE HIGH PAVEMENT NOTTINGHAM NG1 1HR Telephone 0602 54524 3 November 1983. Record Section Dear Member, I am writing in order to keep you informed of the current state of our publication programme. In recent years because of the very high costs of printing and the relatively small print-runs involved it has been necessary to issue volumes in return for two years' subscriptions, but even then they are highly subsidized by grants obtained from various bodies. The present volume - Letters of John Holles, 1587-1637, Vol. 2. - is issued as the volume for 1982 - 1983 and thus brings the publication series up-to-date. The third volume of the Holles Letters is in active preparation and will hopefully be issued, complete with index to all three columns, during 1985. The Record Section Committee is very much aware that during the previous 12 or so years only one single part edition has been issued, and that the others have been drawn out into two, three, and four parts respectively published over long intervals. the Committee feels that this policy is far from ideal and that in future preference will be given to the issue of shorter complete volumes on an annual basis. Future editions under active consideration are : (a) the Sherwood Forest survey book of 1609, together with a reproduction of the accompanying map of the southern part of the Forest, (b) Archdeaconry of Nottingham Marriage Licence Bonds, 1771 to 1810 (c) The Upton Constables' accounts, during the Civil war, and (d) the Hearth Tax Returns of 1664 and 1674.'.
