Envelope affixed to endpaper at rear, addressed to Lady Sackville / White Cottage / Roedean / Brighton; contains manuscript letter from the author to Lady Sackville; addressed: My dear B.M.; signed: Ever affectionately E.F Benson; paper headed: Lamb House, Rye, Sussex; dated: Sept 7, 27. Benson urges her to send news and sends a copy of his book to "bait a trap." Pencil text marking throughout. Provenance: Inscribed on endpaper: "For B.M. with all good wishes from E.F Benson / September 1927" [i.e. Bonne Maman, Lady Victoria Sackville, 1862-1936]. Bookplate: V S in two linked rings, with baron's coronet. Also has decorated bookplate: A good book is the best of friends the same today and forever. One of the books of Victoria Sackville Knole Sevenoaks. Binding: blue publisher's cloth, lettered in black.
